Bird Bowls Lapis & Topaz Feet
£1,450.00 – £1,690.00
Lapis lazuli or lapis for short, is a deep blue semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense colour. Lapis lazuli was being mined in Afghanistan as early as the 7th millennium BC. Today mines in northeast Afghanistan and Pakistan are still the major source of lapis lazuli.
The topaz has been known for at least 2000 years and is one of the gemstones which form the foundations of the twelve gates to the Holy City of the New Jerusalem. These so-called apocalyptic stones are intended to serve in protection against enemies and as a symbol of beauty and splendour.
